Stamford Bridge Stadium
Chelsea's Stamford Bridge stadium was opened in 1877
to host athletic meetings and it was not until 1905 that it was first used
for football. Fulham FC was originally given the opportunity of playing
at Stamford Bridge, but when they decided against the offer a new club
was born instead - Chelsea FC.

With a capacity of 42,500, the stadium has been transformed
in recent years with three sides being completely rebuilt and average attendances
since completion in 2001 stand at a little short of capacity. The development
also saw the construction of two hotels, five restaurants and office and
retail space in an attempt for the club to diversify from being dependent
purely on revenue from football. This proved to be less successful than
planned and the debt taken on to finance this diversification became a
burden on the club, a situation that was only rectified by the club's takeover
by Roman Abramovich in 2003.

Stamford Bridge stadium boasts two jumboscreens showing match highlights
and other information. It also has a free creche for children from 1 to
5 years old. This is open during home matches played at the weekend and
can be booked direct with the stadium on +44 (0)870 300 1212.
