It was a brave decision that RCD Espanyol took in 1997 when they sold their ground and moved into Barcelona's Olympic Stadium. For several years the faithful blanquiazules supporters had to make their way up the slopes of Montjuic to enter an almost always half empty stadium completely devoid of atmosphere to watch their heroes play. They went to watch a team that had no cash for players – all the money was needed for the new stadium.
Espanyol moved to a new stadium during the 2009/10 season; with all the seats in the club's blue and white colours, the Estadi RCDE is a recognised 'Elite' stadium, offering magnificent views even from the corners of the ground and the very best of modern facilities.
