Although Liverpool haven’t
won the English Premier League since its
inception in 1992, they are the most successful
English club of all time. Founded in 1892
and situated in Liverpool, Merseyside, they
have won the English League 18 times and
the FA Cup and the League Cup 7 times each.
At the heart of Liverpool’s escalation
to prominence was a certain Bill Shankly
who reshaped, restructured and rejuvenated
the club in the early 1960s. The club
has never looked back since and until
the Premiership was constituted in 1992,
they were the most widely recognized English
team.
Great names such as Kenny Dalglish, Ian
Rush, Alan Hansen, Steve McManaman, Robbie
Fowler, Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard
have graced Anfield, the home ground of
Liverpool since 1892. These days of course
construction work is going on the brand
new Stanley Park who capacity could be
a massive 80,000.
Having won the UEFA Champions League
5 times, Liverpool are the most successful
English club in Europe. They were also
one of the founding figures of the now-disbanded
elite G-14 group of leading European football
clubs.
The Reds, as the club is nicknamed, came
into the hands of the American businessmen
George Gillett and Tom Hicks in February
2007 and although the duo has invested
heavily in the club, things have not gone
according to plan with the Liverpool fans
not hiding their disappointment towards
the Americans.
Liverpool share a huge
animosity with their city rivals Everton.
Some of the notable players in the current squad include the England international midfielder Steven Gerrard, Spanish star striker Fernando Torres.
