Although it was built in 1947, the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium remains one of Europe's finest football grounds.
With a current capacity of in excess of 80,000, considerable improvements have been made in recent years so that both the seating and the facilities in the stadium of worthy of the twenty first century.
When you approach the Bernabéu for the first time – perhaps from its own Line 10 Metro station – you will expect it to look larger. That's because the first tier of the ground is actually built below ground level, to lessen the stadium's impact on the Chamartín area.
